2nd Annual Holiday Gift Drive!!!

Hello 805ers!

It’s that time of the year again and our 2nd Annual Holiday Gift Drive for Casa Pacifica is here! Last year we were completely overwhelmed by the immense generosity that was showered on the children and families that we sponsored through Casa Pacifica, by the 805 community and beyond! It’s my hope that this year we will do it again, only bigger and even better!!

This holiday season we have teamed up with Hub101 to make these wishes happen! And we need YOUR help! Here’s how:

We have pledged to grant the wishes of 5 families and 23 children! This is a huge goal! But, I am so confident because I know I can count on all the big- hearted, generous people that make up our community.

Last but not least, I would like to express my immense gratitude to all of you for helping to make 805 Startups an incredible community, one that I am extremely proud to be a member. It has been an amazing year for 805 Startups, we have and will continue to accomplish amazing things together and build a bright future for the 805!

Come on 805ers, we’ve got this!!!

Peace on Earth to All!

October VIP Lunch

We had a great lunch today with our VIP members.  It was at a new restaurant in the Thousand Oaks Mall called, Deliteful Meals.

The food and space definitely stood up to the name. It was surprisingly delicious. Especially, when you take a moment to consider all the food was gluten free.

I’m not sure how much experience you have with trying gluten free food but, it usually doesn’t stand up to regular food. haha.

If you’re interested in a new place to try that is fresh, healthy, and outstanding we suggest you give them a try for your next lunch or dinner.

They also have music performances Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 5:30pm!

Again, special thanks to Soan and Partysserie for helping with this event, thanks to Deliteful Meals for providing their space and food, and thanks to our sponsors!

Oct. 17 – Alon Goren’s “Punk Rock Entrepreneurship” – Conejo Valley

Punk Rock Entrepreneurship

Thinking and acting like a punk rocker makes you a better entrepreneur

Join us at our October Entrepreneur Speaker Series event with Alon Goren, founder and CEO of InvestedIn and 805 Startups, discussing how thinking and acting like a punk rocker makes you a better entrepreneur.

Goren believes that the traits of a punk rocker and the attributes it takes to be a good startup founder are almost identical.

He doesn’t have a mohawk, dress funny, try hard to disappoint his parents, or fall into most of the easy-to-spot stereotypes that punk rockers fall into. To him, that’s not all that punk is about. Punk rock is about asking questions, destroying conventions, going against the grain and, generally, doing good and destroying what’s bad or not working. It’s about fighting for what is right, being independent, doing it yourself and building/creating things.

Come hear how Goren’s punk rock attitude, ethos, mentality, culture, or whatever you would like to call it has helped him start companies, get thousands of customers, fill rooms, raise millions of dollars, close large contracts and build communities. Or just come for the pizza and the embarrassing pictures from his childhood.

Please join us at the second Entrepreneur Speaker Series event of the school year. There’s no charge, but registration is required as seating is limited.

REGISTER NOW

Goren is the founder of 805 Startups, a local networking group of over 1,500 entrepreneurs and investors. He also founded InvestedIn, a technology company that builds online fundraising portals. A pioneer in the crowdfunding space, Goren has been involved in over $200M in online investment transactions. He has developed technology that powers websites and financial transactions for Fortune 500 companies and well-known foundations such as Coca-Cola, ATB Financial and Global Philanthropy Group. He also created a white label fundraising portal for individuals and businesses hoping to crowdfund ventures independently of major platforms. His support of the JOBS Act and day-to-day interactions with investors and financial professionals inspired him to create a solution for marketers hoping to attract investment firms and hedge fund managers.

Before launching InvestedIn, Goren worked for entertainment tech giants such as IMDb, Amazon and MySpace where he managed product development, testing and performance. InvestedIn was named “Best Marketplace Platform” by the Los Angeles Venture Association in 2013, and Goren was named to the Socaltech 50 for his work with InvestedIn. He is a thought leader on social enterprise and crowdfunding, and has spoken at SXSW V2V, Kingonomics and many other conferences. He has been featured in prominent publications, including Forbes and VentureBeat.

The evening will begin with networking at 6 p.m. The main speaker will go on at 6:45, and the event will conclude by 8 p.m.

2nd Annual State of Tech and Startups Event a Success

Our 2nd Annual State of Tech and Startups event went incredibly well.

The objectives of the event were to:

  • Raise awareness for the startup activity in our area
  • Generate excitement for the activity
  • Give people a reason to get involved in the activity

We achieved all of that and more. As those that attended can attest to, there were a lot of new faces in the crowd.

Those new faces included the Mayor of Thousand Oaks, city council members, and executives from some of the largest corporations in Conejo Valley.

Let’s not forget the new faces that appeared on one of the most prestigious panel of speakers we have put together yet. They deserve a huge amount of gratitude from us all for their time and energies.

805 Startups is growing incredibly quickly and it has occurred with little more than word of mouth marketing powered by you, your friends, and the leaders in our community.

Keep that in mind and try to imagine what 805 Startups and you could do together with more resources.

Since the event, 805 Startups has been overwhelmed by your interest in getting involved with growing our group and our startup ecosystem.

We are very grateful for your interest in helping us accumulate more resources to accelerate that growth.

We want to thank our key sponsors for their support:

We would also like to thank the many local businesses that helped display posters and distribute fliers for the event:
